Montana offers many beautiful and striking views. It is one of the five states which have the duty of being home to the Rocky Mountains. However, it is legendary amongst the global angling community as its cool waters, which run beautifully clear are believed to be the best place to find some of the largest trophy trout in the state. This, with the amazing views of the Hayden Valley will guarantee a trip to remember.

As the snow melts and runs down the mountains it fills the lakes which the region is so well known for. in Montana is not only about these clear and inviting lakes, but also the Gallatin and Madison Rivers. There is a large tourist industry and the angler is well catered for with many organized expeditions and facilities for the angler of every level of experience. Whatever you are after in Montana will be able to offer it.

There will be some anglers who will wade through the rivers to get close to the renowned fish, while others will sit relaxing on the backs of the Big Horn River, or admiring the amazing waters flow of the Missouri River. The natural and unpredictable nature of the rivers mean that the bottom of the river can vanish easily from beneath your feet, hence some fishermen will decide to reduce the risk of a complete soaking and will head out in rubber rafts or kayaks.

If you are happy to fish for trout which will not make the record books, and are often under a goot long, then the lakes are a definite destination for you when considering in Montana. These lakes have some of the clearest waters you will find and they are some nine thousand feet high. Many of these lakes are ‘catch and release’ only. This should not put you off as the experience alone will be worth the effort, the fish are just an added bonus. If you are looking for trophies while in Montana then these high up lakes may not be your choice. You may find that you are better catered for a the lover lakes for on the major rivers. Don’t be disappointed, it is important to do your research.

If you have never been in Montana before then you might like to consider taking on a guide for your first outings. There are plenty of these in the area and they can greatly improve your experience if you are on your first visit. Once you are more familiar with the area and the different locations this will not be necessary, but is worth considering on your first visit.

While the anglers will be heading to hook their perfect trophy on the late spring in Montana is not their only sport. There will be others heading to the region for big game hunting.
